Kickboxing isn’t Just for Supermodels

A few months ago I was pouring over new workout routines to keep me from being bored out of my skull at the gym.  I happened upon a saucy little video of Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima indulging in her favorite exercise, kickboxing.   This gal is tough, and I was immediately obsessed with trying out the exercise she does to stay so gorgeous and toned.  I discovered that a load of other celebrities also use kickboxing to get their booties ready for the camera in a matter of weeks.  If it is good enough for Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie, it’s good enough for me.  An all or nothing girl, without ever taking a class in my life,  I walked in to Knuckle Up in Atlanta and signed up for a full year of unlimited kickboxing classes. I promptly outfitted myself with black wraps and pink gloves (even though I have been made fun of TWICE for wearing pink).  Pink boxing gloves make me happy, but hey I wear stilettos and pencil skirts to work everyday of my life….the spa goers and patients never blink an eye, unless I wear slacks, then they tell me they hope I get to feeling better soon.

My first class struck the chord of fear that lies deep in my belly.  I found a punching bag at the back of the room and pretended the 15 other people in the room were actually non existent.  This worked well until the instructor shouted at us orders to do 50 jumping jacks, 25 lunges each leg, 50 squats, then finishing us off with 20 burpees.  It was then that I looked around the room to see if any of the other folks had bulging eyes and full body tremors like I did.  They were all soldiering on, so I couldn’t very well be the only face down chum in the room gasping for air and calling it quits.  After that little  “warm-up”  we were ready to launch into the combinations.  Jab, Jab, right cross, left hook, right round kick, right round kick.  We repeatedly tore down our sand filled opponent, and I felt victorious making it through my first kickboxing class.  This is the only class that I have ever taken that qualifies doing 100 situps followed by holding plank for 1 full minute as a “rest period”.  They say that the average person plows through about 600-800 calories per class, and I fully believe it.  My livestrong app says that I burn about 600.  I have been going three times a week since the first of April, and I’m feeling pretty toned already.  I can’t wait to see what happens to my body after a few months of this.  Beware, high intensity exercise like this releases loads of endorphins, the best drug known to man, and it is highly addictive!

suppress your raging appetite 101

That raging bull of hunger barrels through your conscience demanding to be lulled with a heaping slice chocolate cake, and you are defenseless!  What’s a gal to do?

1).  It maybe counter intuitive, but eating small meals (about 200-300 calories)  5-6 times a day will keep your blood sugar stable and prevent over eating.

2).  Drink no less than 2 liters of water every day.  Thirst is often mistaken for hunger!  TIP:  make your self finish the first liter before noon, then you have the rest of the day to sip.

3).  Apples are a dieter’s best friend.  Munch on nature’s leading lady of appetite suppression as a snack to tame the beast till your next meal.

4).  Green Tea makes the world go around for skinny gals.  3-4 cups a day will naturally help keep cravings at bay all the while increasing your ability to burn fat with its thermogenic effect.  Scientists spill the beans that green tea chuggers oxidate fat at about 20% higher rate.

5).  When all else fails.  Cheat!  Phentermine spray is a low dose phentermine based appetite suppressant.  1-2 sprays under the tongue when cravings hit, up to 10 sprays a day, will control your cravings with out the jitters associated with  phentermine pills.

HCG Skinny Spaghetti

This delicious recipe uses lean steak as a replacement for the ground beef that we aren’t allowed on the HCG diet.  Technically, we aren’t supposed to mix veggies if we are cooking them, but remember the zucchini is raw.  Serves one skinny gal to be.

1/4 cup fat free chicken stock

1 can fire roasted tomatoes

1tsp garlic powder

2tsp onion powder

1 tsp stevia

1 raw zucchini

food processor

1.  Julienne cut the zucchini and sprinkle with sea salt.  Set aside.

2. Cook tomatoes and chicken stock over low/medium heat adding in the herbs and spices to simmer.

3.  Place the beef steak in your beloved food processor until finely ground.  (There is a creative way around everything!)

4.  Add the beef to the tomatoes and cook until done.

5.  Pour your delicious spaghetti sauce over the raw zucchini noodles and toss.  Enjoy!!

Liposuction is so passé

Bathing suit season is quickly approaching and that familiar fret of how to hide certain areas of our bodies is upon us. Please welcome the answer to those age long queries.  We can now do something about that cellulite and little bit of belly fat that just won’t go away without you having to pencil in weeks of recovery.

Not only can we attack those dimples, but we can do it with FDA approved pain-free laser treatments.   Translation: smoother, tighter legs, smaller waist, and smaller bathing suit. All of this in less than 40 minutes and no downtime.   With absolutely no interruption of your life you can achieve a hotter bod.

The Zerona body contouring laser is the darling of body conscious celebrities, socialites, and the Pilates instructors next door.  Using a low heat laser, this treatment causes fat to leak out of its cell resulting in inches lost all over the body.  It’s a perfect treatment for those that have worked hard on their bodies and can’t seem to get to that superficial fat that lies just over the muscle.  Just 6 treatments over two weeks can give you results without the risk or stress of liposuction.  Expect a 3-9 inch total loss over your waist, thighs, and hips.

For the plague of cellulite that is all too familiar to most of us, there is Smooth Shapes.  A treatment that involves suction, laser, and light working together to reduce engorged fat cells and strengthen weak collagen. A Laser Cellulite treatment that reduces fat cells, regenerates collagen, increases circulation and restores metabolic processes to the treated area?  Sign me up.
